I’m a marketing engineer. I turn complex technology into clear, compelling stories that make the right people buy.

Hi, I’m Markus. I’ve spent my career right at the border between engineering and the market. The best way to explain what I do is this: I’m the guy who can dig into the developers‘ code to understand how a product works, and then turn around and hand-draw the flipcharts to train the end-users.

I spent the last 16 years managing European distribution marketing for Festo, and now I’m looking for my next chapter. I am at my best when I am out there – at trade shows, with customers, or running trainings – really acting as an ‚evangelist‘ for a technical product. Right now, I’m looking for an innovative tech company that has brilliant technology and needs a stronger voice to promote it. I’m open to anywhere I can champion a great solution.

My roles as a marketing engineer have many different names

Old, inflexible, unfit, expensive…? Maybe some, not me

Negative age bias frequently overshadows the proven track records of professionals over fifty. HR departments often bypass seasoned experts due to unfounded stereotypes, including assumed technological stagnation, resistance to change, high salary demands, declining energy, and fears of imminent retirement.

However, these perceived drawbacks are individual traits, not inevitable consequences of aging. While statistically correlated with older demographics, professionals of any age can lack drive or flexibility. True value is defined by mindset and adaptability.

Evangelist – a Mindset

The term ‚Evangelist‘ originally comes from tech giants like Microsoft, where people do nothing all day but preach new concepts on big stages. I am fully aware that this pure role rarely exists in a medium-sized company or scale-up—and frankly, that’s not what I am looking for anyway.

For me, being an ‚Evangelist‘ is less of a rigid job title and much more of a mindset. At its core, it’s about spreading the word about truly great technology in the market. That means a mix of many disciplines: I absolutely love being at trade shows, explaining our solutions to journalists and partners. I develop the marketing concepts around it, I train the sales teams, or I host webinars. Back at UC4, as a Product Manager, I already spent about 30% of my time doing exactly these things. So, if I can take this enthusiasm and bring it to the outside world in a role like Product Marketing or Business Development—ideally doing a bit of everything—then I am completely in my element.
